Hadrian's Wall Trek - Day 7

Day 7! We are finally here for the last day of our trek.  We are buzzing this morning as we can't believe we have been walking for the last 6 days and realised how far we came!  Also, as we are staying at the lodge for an extra night it means we don't have to carry our massive back packs! The end is in sight! We set off earlier than usual to make sure we get there in good time!  Watch out Bowness! The Laus are coming!!!

We walk through the main road of Beaumont joining back onto the Hadrian's Wall Path on a long bridal way full of dairy cows!  After a close encounter with a farmer's flatbed truck and his aggressive dog, we reach Burgh by Sands and walking along the main road, seeing more cows in the field and even a llama farm!

When we are out on the other side of the village, there is a long straight road that about 3 miles long in the open.  On the left there is a foot path on the bank and you can see the mountains in the Lake District.  On the right hand side, beyond the marsh land you can see River Eden and Scotland in the far distance.  We have never seen so many cows just grazing and chilling around despite people walking, cycling and driving along. Many of them just casually crossing the road as the grass is probably greener on the otherside.

We stayed on the road until we reach Drumburgh Castle when we found a little hideaway resting place with a honesty box so we treat ourselves to some ice cream.  It was a welcome change back onto some bridal way and footpath as it was quite boring walking on the road. We can feel our hearts racing as we are now over halfway.  Bowness-on-Solway is less than 4 miles away!!

By the time we got near Glasson, we appear on a foot path by the river leading up to Port Carlise. We came across people swimmng in the rising tide in the sea where we stop for a little rest. For this final part of this journey, we have mix feeling and subconsciously slowing down our pace as in some weird way, we don't want this to end.

We walk through Bowness and found the Banks Promenade where we get our final Hadrian's Wall passport stamp. Emotion was running high but I asked Christine to hold back her tears as we have the final finishing line to cross!

We walked through the main road of Bowness holding the urge to go into the Kings Arm for a pint as there is a sign post at the bottom of the hill which mirrors the one in Wallsend and marks the real finishing line!  We were literally running down and nearly trip over the cattle grid (which will be a tragic), reaching the sign
post looking at each other feeling unreal.  Have we really done this? Have we really walked over 90 miles in the last 7 days?

I know many people had done this trek before but the sense of achievement and accomplishment is overwhelming.  I'm especially proud of Christine as she have overcome massive hurdle and being able to pick herself up, then use that energy to carry out such a positive, charitable challenge to give back and help others.  I am delighted and feel honoured to be able to complete this challenge with her! I think it help us grow as a couple and dare I say better human being!

We ended the day with a well deserved drink at the Kings Arm Inn in Bowness before taking the bus back to our lodge in Beaumont with more drinks at the Drovers Rest and a decent meal.  WE'VE DONE IT!!!! YESSSSSSS!

So on our last day we done 10.8 miles. When we added all the distance together we have travelled 94 miles in total. Our bodies feel broken, it hurts everywhere and my legs and feet won't talk to  me anymore. But this is all worth it for the charitable cause.
Me and Christine would like to say a big THANK YOU to all our friends and family for your support. It gives us tremendous energy during the trek and the funny comments kept us going through the very hard times.
Thank you again! Love you all! Please check out our justgiving page, share and spread the words for mental wellbeing!
