Hadrian's Wall Trek- Not long to go!

Only another weekend before the Hadrian's Wall trek! We are certainly feeling the pressure! But our training schedule was disturbed by the heat wave and other commitments, like camping!!!

Last weeked was our annual camping trip with our Book/Film club which consists of four close knit families for which our kids grow up and go to school together since they were 6 years old! The mums are the 'book' club but as far as I know, they've never read any books and the dads are part of the 'film' club where we do actually go to cinema together occasionally.  But who are we kidding- we are actually the Wine/beer club where everytime we get together we just get drunk!

During our weekend camp at Top End Farm, we manage to drag ourselves away from the drinking (for me anyway as Christine don't drink anymore) to fit in a walk to the middle of Little Staughton.  Our mission is simple - to train when ever possible and enjoy the great outdoors! And also, see if the nearest pub from the campsite is still open for business or not! I knew having a pub as a destination is always great motivation!

We mapped our route for a 3 mile round trip and set off from the main road. Turning into a bridal way and were met by couple of horses!  After cutting through a maize field and a small woods we were pretty much in the center of Little Staughton!

Despite being mostly flat ground I did find it required moderate effort to walk as my trainers are way too soft!  It was also fairly warm in the mid 20s °C and my MC hammer trousers probably don't help.  Strike a pose and air my pits! 🀣

Eventually we got to the main street in Little Staughton, very residential and couple of big pink houses! Around the corner we spotted the sign for the pub! Success!

Unfortunately,  the pub looks like it had been  closed for a long time! Like many village pubs, it was probably a victim of covid lock down.  We made our way back to the camp site. An hour and half round trip! Very glad we could fit that in! Back to enjoy the camping shenanigans!

With only one more weekend to go. It will be our last opportunity to practice for a decent long trek! Let's do this!

We have now more than double our target! Thank you for everyone's generosity!
